Update August 05, 2003: it seems likely that this is a male O. biolleyi - click here to see a specimen.
This Orthemis sp. was photographed by me at c. 4,800 feet in the Mindo valley of northwestern Ecuador. I think I can see some yellow tones next to the pale thoracic marks visible through the wing - could this be O. sulphurata? click here for the only pic of a presumed male of this taxon that I can find. I recall that I saw three or four similar dragons along this trail:
