This male Regal Darner Coryphaeschna
ingens was found by Bill Edwards and Martin Reid,
and photographed by the latter at the Fort Worth Nature Center
and Refuge, northwestern Tarrant County, Texas on June 21, 2003;
This is a first County record, and I think a first Regional record
and significant range extention from the Coastal Plain counties
of Texas. While I feel the photos confirm the identification,
this is such a siginificant record that I'd appreciate any feedback,
thank you. Note that we saw at least two other large darners in
the same section of woods next to swampy lake edge (just east
of the Lotus Boardwalk for those who know the site) - these were
only seen in flight and not identified to species, but were either
this taxon or Swamp Darner Epiaeschna heros(which
is a scarce resident in the county):
