Yucatan and Cozumel, Mexico November 2013

From November 16 - 24, 2013, Sheridan Coffey, Dan Peak and I visited the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, birding at Cozumel, Felipe Carillo Puerto, Calakmul, Chichen Itza, Rio Lagartos, and Coba.

These two female-type Mexican Sheartails Doricha eliza were arguing with each other along the dirt road to San Salvador Ranch, east of Rio Lagartos:






This female (with deformed bill) was nesting on a light fixture in the middle of the town of Rio Lagartos - luckily it is a rather sleepy place such that it could pop in and feed the young when no humans were close by:
