Normally the dramatic and endearing Military Macaw Ara militaris mexicana is only found higher-up, on the western side of Rancho del Cielo - this pair gave a close fly-by at sunrise at the small platform that overlooks the coastal plain; I suspect that the severe drought in NE Mexico may be causing many birds to wander more-widely in search of food and water.
