Dry Scrub Forest:
We had a full day to drive from Piñas to Loja, so we took a detour south at Catacochi (towards Macara)for a few kilometers to a remnant patch of dry scrub forest - it turned out to be very birdy, with three Elegant Crescent-chests, a male Collared Antshrike and a male Plumbeous-backed Thrush among many others. En route we found a a side-track with a pair of Pacific Pygmy-Owls, and later a small group of the range-restricted Gray-cheeked Parakeets.
