COLOMBIA December 2009

Thick-billed Seed-Finch Oryzoborus funereus ochrogyne: above Minca. Discussions about the specific/subspecific status of this taxon vis-a-vi angolensis often quote "intermediates near Santa Marta" - so I thought I'd post these images of an all-black individual singing from forest above Minca. Also note the rather pale mandible - something I've seen on one photo of this taxon from the same general area...? :
