During my first week in Barrow Snowy Owls were fairly common around the NARL area, but upon my return (after two weeks in Deadhorse) there were noticeably fewer.

Most mornings in that first week I'd open the door to see this guy dozing close by:


- and some mornings he'd have some company:



Behind the main NARL building near a patch of tundra an older-looking male would hang out:



This juvenile along the Dalton Highway, Deadhorse, must have just left the nest (I saw no adult nearby):
