These molting alternate Solitary Sandpipers were photographed near
Fort Worth, Texas on July 26 2003 by Martin Reid. The striking difference in size is not a photographic illusion (although there is some of that effect at play in these images) - it was obvious in real life and is what caused me to take these photos. I cannot decide if we are dealing with an oddly small one, or an oddly large one... :
