This Ruff Philomachus pugnax was photographed west of Raymondville (490 and 1425), Willacy county, Texas on September 07, 2008 having been relocated there earlier in the day by Randy Pinkston:
This was the first view I had (and the most frequent!); the prominent dull "soft" scaled effect is distinctive:
