These first-cycle Yellow-footed Gulls Larus livens were photographed by Willie Sekula at the Salton Sea, California, in September 2004:



In the two images below the YFGU in the foreground is an advanced first-cycle; I presume the gull in the background to be a first-cycle Western Gull, but the undertail coverts look a bit sparsely-marked... there is more than a passing resemblance to juvenile Kelp Gull (but it would have to be from parents on a northern breeding cycle):
