This juvenile Thayer's Gull (Larus
thayeri) was photographed by Michael Donahue at
Tacoma, Washington in Mid November 1999. The paleness of the
bases to the scapulars is unusual, and when combined with the
extensive pale marking in the tertials/wing coverts and the hint
of internal marbling in the tail band, leads me to speculate about
whether there are some kumlieni genes in this individual:
