This juvenile Thayer's Gull Larus
thayeri was photographed by Michael Donahue at
Tukwila, Washington in mid-January 1998; note that all visible
mantle/scaps are still dark-centered juvenile feathers, but there
seem to be some missing feathers on the lower lateral scaps -
the new paler first-basic feathers may be just coming in:
