These three juvenile Lesser Black-backed
Gulls (Larus fuscus graellsii) were photographed
by Detlef Gruber:-
1) "Some graellsii can show fresh juvenile plumage
in October (Hannover) like this one, but the majority have moulted
into their 1st-winter plumage by this time. Compared to fuscus
notice the uniform brownish impression and larger size of the
bill (more like a Herring Gull)":
2) "A fresh juvenile from a breeding colony at the German
North Sea coast (Island of Borkum) in July. See the same characters
mentioned above.""
3) "A 1st-winter bird in November (Hannover) in comparison
to Herring Gulls. Notice the darkness and stage of moult from
juvenile to 1st winter plumage."
