This Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus
fuscus graellsii) was photographed at Follett's Island
(north of Surfside), Texas on August 18, 1999 by Jim Stevenson.
This is the first documented "Summer" record of LBBG
for Texas. Of note on this individual is the apparent uniformity
of the fresh upperparts feathers - most 2B LBBGs still retain
a few older-generation feathers in the mantle, scaps, median coverts,
and especially the greater coverts:
