This presumed first-basic smithsonianus Herring Gull was photographed at Linkcrest Landfill, Fort Worth, Texas, by Martin Reid in January 2003. Three unusual aspects of this individual are:- the pattern of the underparts, the pale inner webs to all the primaries, and the tone of gray of the 2nd-generation mantle and scaps (darker than RBGU in direct comparison):
