This 1st-Basic smithsonianus Herring Gull was photographed on November
25, 1998 at Mustang Island, Texas by Martin Reid. The mantle and
upper scapulars are first-basic feathers, while the lower scapulars
are typical "holly-leaf" juvenile scapulars; Note the
very long wings and short tail that in combination create an LBBG-like
structure:
