These 4th-alternate Herring Gull Larus
a. smithsonianus was photographed by Martin Reid at
La Marque, Texas on 3rd April, 2000. In this first image, the
very dark eye and orbital ring on a white head, rather dark mantle,
and grayish tinge to the legs combine ot make this bird look very
unusual:
- but with it facing the other way, the pale eye with yellowish
orbital ring create a different effect:
