These definitive-alternate Herring Gulls Larus a. smithsonianus were photographed at Nome, Alaska on 21st August, 2000 by Don Cunningham. On the same date, Don obtained photographs of Vega Gull (L (a) vegae), which he reports as the most-common form of Herring Gull at this location:
