This adult Herring Gull was photographed by Martin Reid at La Marque Landfill (near Galveston) Texas on March 23, 1999. It appears to have features of Vega Gull- I would appreciate receiving some informed feedback :

- in the above image note the small red smudge on the upper mandible above the gonys; how often does smithsonianus show any red in this area?
