These two rather different 2nd-Basic(?) smithsonianus Herring Gulls were photographed on Mustang
Island in late November, 1998 by Martin Reid. Both birds seem
to still have darkish eyes, and the first bird seems much more
like a 3rd-Basic in plumage(?):
