In this picture (by C. Sexton in Texas in late February) there are three large gulls with spread wings; a B1 thayeri-type on the left, a B2 smithsonianus on the right, plus an interesting B1 smithsonianus in the middle (2nd pic below): the pattern of the upper/ under primaries is reminiscent of B1 schistisagus.
