This first-basic presumed Scandinavian Herring
Gull (Larus argentatus argentatus) was photographed
in mid-March 1999 in central England by Martin Reid. Some good
gullers have stated that this could be a marinus; I feel that
the extent and pattern of the body markings (too dense and not
barred/wavy enough for typical marinus) and the shape/proportion
of the wings ("hand" too long, "arm" too narrow
for typical marinus) both favor argentatus - compare
it to this typical marinus.
