This adult-basic Glaucous-winged Gull Larus glaucescens x Western Gull Larus occidentalis hybrid was photographed by Michael Donahue at Edmonds, Washington in late October 1998; the primaries look black enough for a pure Western Gull, but the mantle is a bit too pale and the classic GWGU-like winter head markings are all wrong:
