This gull was at the Elliot Landfill, Corpus Christi, Texas on January 06, 2005: note the darkish mantle, thick white tertial crescent and secondary tips, limited/oddly distributed head streaking, yellowish/pinkish/grayish legs, thick, bright, blob-ended bill, orange orbital ring, secondary "skirt" when standing, and damaged (left) and missing (right) primaries in the wings:- I suggest that these features are most easily explained by a Kelp x Herring Gull hybrid (or backcross thereof):
