This Thayer's Gull -type bird was at the Elliot Landfill, Corpus Christi, Texas on December 17 2004: note the very short wings( P10 < P9), dumpy body, bull-neck with rounded head, rather short and thick bill, and the marbling in the outer greater secondary coverts and the inner primaries. While smaller than most HERGs, it was very aggressive, dominating the nearby HERGs over food scraps:
