This presumed first-basic/first alternate Baltic
Gull (Larus fuscus) was photographed by Martin Reid
in Bahrain on March 5, 1999. I had overlooked this image previously,
but during a recent re-study of my photos, I noticed that this
bird is ringed; it has a metal ring on the right leg and a white
plastic-type ring with black characters on the left leg - this
is the standard ring combination for Finnish-ringed fuscus;
I am struggling to make out the figures on the plastic band; I
now realise my earlier speculation about the actual number was
not wise - any suggestions on the ring
number, or the age of this bird?:
