This unusual and distinctive Common Gull (Larus canus canus?) was present at Brouwersdam, SW Netherlands from December 2, 1999 until February 3, 2000 (photos by Norman Van Swelm©). Some experienced gullers in the Netherlands feel it is too different from the nominate canus seen there (including lots from northern Scandinavia and the occasional heinei) to be one of the Old World forms, and suspect it to be a Mew Gull (Larus canus brachyrhynchus). Please email your comments to myself or Norman Van Swelm - thank you.
