These three long-winged Panoquina skippers were photographed in the LRGV on October 19, 2009. I assume them all to be P. lucas, Purple-washed Skipper, but is there any definitive feature that rules out P. hecebolus for the first and third ones? (the second one has the extra pale spot above/ahead of the largest spot too elongated for hecebolus, plus all the spots are strongly golden-toned). Apparently hecebolus can also have a row of whitish spots on the VHW, and even a slight purple sheen - ?:
