These two Polites carus Carus Skippers were seen feeding on remnant flowers on almost-finished Buttonbush around Balmorhea Lake, Reeves county, Texas on August 17, 2008. The habitat was open lake edge with scattered shrubs set among a large area of scrub flats with nearby arroyos:

2) a female; the dark VHW patches seem unusual and more like those seen on H. uncas, yet details of the precise wing pattern plus the placement of the tiny black marginal spots (inside the thin marginal line - not outside) seem to agree with P. caras:
