I'd been fortunate enough to see the rare and enigmatic Scarlet-breasted Dacnis three times previously, but always the birds had been feeding actively and the looks were somewhat brief. This time I managed to find a male taking a rest in the subcanopy at Rio Silanche, allowing us all to soak up the gorgeous colors, and me to take a few record shots:
