Sheridan and I spent part of November 25/26, 2017 in New Zealand, followed by fifteen days in Australia.
We visited Miranda, Mangere, and Waitakere near Auckland, NZ, and then around Cairns, around Darwin, and around Melbourne plus Victoria's Malee in Australia.

PINE CREEK AREA
Hooded Parrot is a striking range-restricted species that is one of the top targets for any birders visiting the Top End. The small town of Pine Creek is one of the best places to see them, and after a slow start on our afternoon arrival we eventually saw them many times as they sat in trees or fed unobtrusively on the ground - often right next to the kerb even when vehicles drove by. As evening approached they started to gather in a pre-roost flock on the telephone lines next to the store, where we enjoyed leisurely looks at 33 birds, including 6 adult males:
