This very large Accipiter was photographed by me at the Halff Brothers Ranch near Pearsall, Frio County, Texas in the early afternoon of April 26, 2005. I got a much better (closer) look than these poor photos convey, as it was just getting into a thermal when I found it, and I was able to see most of the distinguishing features of a first- Spring Northern Goshawk Accipiter gentilis, prior to digging out my buried camera from the car - and by the time I relocated it in my camera it was at least twice as far away, rising quickly in the thermal:
