While birding on the north (Caribbean) coast of Colombia in December 2009 I noticed and photographed a Snowy Egret that had slaty-gray plumes on the rear of the head. It was with numerous other Snowies that all looked typical (i.e. with all-white plumes):



- then in September 2010 while birding near Corpus Christi, Texas I saw a similar bird:


- has anyone else seen this on Snowy Egret? Any idea what the cause is??
